Is the SuperDome in New Orleans a Death Trap?
August 28, 2005 at 11:51 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentThe less fortunate and tourists in New Orleans and surrounding cities are being jammed into the SuperDome. I don’t know about you, but what will happen to the SuperDome under 25 feet of water and 155+ MPH winds? I can’t imagine a good outcome.
It should have been possible to organize an evacuation for all. Use the city buses, school buses, trucks, anything leaving town. The city could have organized a carpool system. Did they not anticipate this day coming? Are we going to condemn people to possible death if they do not own a car?
Off to bed, I hope those poor(literally) folks make it.

Rio Audio is dead….
August 26, 2005 at 11:33 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentWell if you don’t know what the Rio Karma was..shame on you. It was truly the greatest DAP(mp3/ogg/flac) player ever made. The size, shape, controls(Rio stick), docking station just couldn’t be beat. Unfortunately, this player had reliability issues and was two years old. Rio Audio also never did any marketing for their product line. I would fly around on the plane and people were always asking me about my player. No one had ever see or heard of it before.
An update called the Chroma had been rumored since mid-2004. And now the news today that D&M holdings has killed off Rio Audio. Many people had been holding out a long time for a player that will never see the light of day.
Here are some pictures of the Chroma:

If you are considering an iPod may I suggest you read the forums at DAP Review first. The iPod is one of the most feature lacking players out there, but Apples marketing is strong and the ‘hipster’ appeal is strong. I guess Briney Spears sells a lot of albums too, so there is no accounting for taste is there?
Iraqi Constitution translated.
August 25, 2005 at 1:21 pm | In general daily stuff | Leave a CommentDraft copy translated by the AP. I had heard a lot about Sharia (Islamic Law) and made comments about that here. After doing a search, I found only one reference to Sharia. It will be interesting to see if the Sunni’s accept this or are even brought to the table.

August 24, 2005 at 12:27 pm | In general daily stuff | Leave a CommentI recently found an interesting article that explains how under the secular rule of Saddam Hussein women were entitled to more rights that what is being proposed under the new Iraqi constitution. The new Iraqi Constitution will bring Sharia law to the Iraqi people.
I know people will blow up when you say keeping Saddam in power wasn’t a bad idea. I know he was a butcher. I know he stole from his people. I’m just not sure why we attacked a guy who kept extremists under check in his own country. Osama didn’t even like Saddam because he didn’t live under strict Sharia law. If you can explain how we are finding WMD’s, getting terrorists, keeping America safer with this war, I’d love to know.
To me, all I see is the USA wanted to get Saddam even before 9/11. We wanted to go there obviously to control the region. We wanted access to the second largest oil reserve in the world.
Maybe GW jr. should have listened to his father. Look what GW sr. had to say about removing Saddam:
“We were concerned about the long-term balance of power at the head of the Gulf. Trying to eliminate Saddam, extending the ground war into an occupation of Iraq, would have violated our guideline about not changing objectives in midstream, engaging in “mission creep,” and would have incurred incalculable human and political costs……………Had we gone the invasion route, the U.S. could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land. It would have been a dramatically different–and perhaps barren–outcome.“

Its been quite a few years since I’ve seen Shellac and I’m never really got into anything after ‘Live at Action Park’, but they still put on a great show. Of course, there is no way I can give you a set listing here. I don’t even pay attention to song titles and Shellac’s song titles are obscure. They are still the only band I’ve seen to have their amps totally cranked and cause completely no feedback/hum/hiss while idle. Maybe its there amp heads…its hard to tell but they are just large metal boxes with on/off toggle and a knob for volume.
Todd, Bob and Steve goof’ing around. This is the only band to ask the audience for questions during their set. Todd wanted to kill two idiots (You know the friends who look like twins. Same tat’s, piercings, wife beaters, etc) who asked why Todd was so ugly.
