Albuquerque…

Not to diss the fine folks of New Mexico, but this isn’t quite a cultural mecca. Although you do have some interesting culture here that you won’t find in the rest of the country, none of it particularly interests me. The South West motif looks a bit 80’s to me. The big city is just way too small for my taste. Oh well, I did get to have dinner with Matt at Viet Nam 2000 tonight. All was not lost.

My meal.

Matt’s clearly inferior looking meal. :-)

New TV!

After a little more than a month without TV, I finally picked up the Sony KDF 42a10 HD rear projection set. I did most of my research by reading reviews on AVSf orum. AVS forum is a little difficult to navigate, but truly an invaluable resource. Rear projection is really the way to go these days if you don’t want to spend $4000+ on a quality HD set. Nice rear projections can be had for sub $2000. Did I really want to hang my TV on the wall? Not, really. Its great for a bar, but not so practical for a home.
I found that the rear projection set clarity was down quiet a bit vs. my previous Sony CRT HD set. I guess its true that you can’t beat the quality of CRT, unfortunately that set was 225 lbs! This new set is more manageable and it comes in at 42 inches. I could have had 50, but once you get the larger the picture quality goes down. I find that this TV does a pretty good job of displaying SD programming. The CRT model showed quite a bit of artifacts. I also made the move from DirecTV to TimeWarner cable. Anyone who knows me, knows that I’ve been an advocate of DirecTV, but their HD programming is way behind cable. OnDemand can’t be beat either. I can finally also get all my locals in HD. The future of DirecTV and their 5 lnb system is going to fail miserably and cable will once again reign supreme.
If you want to read about red push, etc. I suggest you head on over to AVS forum for a just review.

New B&W Speakers belong to me.

I picked up a pair of Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) 603 S3 speakers recently. The was after a lot of research on Audiogon and eCoustics. I found the quality and value to be very high. The build is beautiful without being ostentatious. The sound quality is great for a small to medium size rooms. I was really tired of the surround sound speaker setup with small cheap satellites. Music is my true passion during the listening experience and I didn’t really care to hear loud explosions in 5.1 surround. Movies still sound great with just a 2 channel stereo setup and I’ll never go away from full size speakers again.

I threw in a pair on Monster M1.4s Biwires with Banana plugs just for good measure. Next, my HarmonKardon AVR220 surround receiver goes in the garbage and I’ll pick up a smooth sounding 2 channel stereo amp. Maybe Outlaw or the Music Hall Maven.

Blizzard ‘06

Wow! 26+ inches of snow in New York City. It was quite fun to watch the kids with their sleds on the street. Clyde hopped around in snow taller than himself. Unfortunately, he got bit by another dog. :-( Kinda bummed me out so I didn’t take any more pictures. Here are just a few. All of the snow was gone in a week. What is a blizzard anyways? I thought it was something they sell at Dairy Queen.

My Street in Brooklyn.

A Church at the Corner.

Busy DeGraw street very quiet.

Woops!

Well, I haven’t posted in over a month. I guess I haven’t really felt up to it and I guess I’ve been really busy. What have I being doing since the new year? I crashed on Tim’s fixed gear bike and found out I fractured my shoulder after an MRI and x-ray. I moved from California to Brooklyn with said busted wing. Trying to sell my car via Classic Cars West and eBay. Bought a ton of new toys and furniture. Got sick twice. Been a social butterfly. Slept way too much and started physical therapy.
Well, its really not much. Actually, once I get out of my boxes and start feeling more at home I’m sure more photos and blog entries will come.
