Stereolab at Town Hall NYC
March 19, 2006 at 8:23 am | In general daily stuff | Leave a CommentStereolab played Town Hall last night with a new LP in hand. I’ve been seeing Stereolab live for about 10 years and maybe this was my seventh or eigth time seeing the band. Obviously, I really like there music, but this band has to call it quits. There is really little left of the Mary days in the bands repertoire and its starting damage the bands legacy. For most of the show I would say that people were totally unfamiliar with the music. It felt very forced and when the band played older songs like Cybele’s Reverie every woke up. I realize the band is trying to start a new phase, but they shouldn’t forget the first one. If I was running Stereolab I would have got a new vocalist and continued on instead of pretending that era never existed. Well here is another crappy photo and set-list for my final Stereolab show.

Mogwai @ Avalon NYC
March 7, 2006 at 7:43 pm | In general daily stuff | Leave a CommentMogwai rocked the house(Church) at the Avalon on Monday night. Through some stroke of pure Craigslist luck, I scored two tickets for the sold out show at face value. They played a couple songs from the new album Mr. Beast and a smattering of other usual selections. Ultimately closing with a noisy ‘Mogwai fear Satan’. My ears are still ringing.

I took some pictures of the show which are up at flickr. Unfortunately, the whole show was heavily back-lit and I couldn’t get my flash to hit the stage. All the slow shutter speed shots were very blurry.

Mr. Minnesota
March 6, 2006 at 10:40 pm | In general daily stuff | Leave a CommentKirby Puckett
(March 14, 1960 – March 6, 2006)

There is little doubt that Kirby is the greatest Minnesota Twin to ever play the game. I was lucky enough to grow up watching him play and checked the box score every morning in the paper to see how Kirby did the previous day. He single handily saved Game 6 of the 1991 World Series. When the Twins won Game 7, I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy after watching any sporting event. I loved watching that little guy play with so much grace. I remember fondly when Kirby could have left Minnesota for more money during free agency and he decided to stay. Luckily he did. Without Kirby, I believe the Twins wouldn’t even be playing in Minnesota today.
Thanks Kirby!
